Matt in LA. He rings to say Eric is the kind of man who has a lathe for cutting 78s, a wall of vintage outboard, but no desk, and he's discovered that there's more to do than he thought there was.
Everybody's been compiling running orders lately, because Friday is when it has to be decided for real. Matt asks me to send him mine. Here is the email I sent him:
"Hello
I have constructed a song order or schedule, like so
Vapour Trail
Something to Believe in
Outside
Garden of Love
Cinderella
Glimmer
Black Hole
Rolls So Deep
Du Lac
Precious Hoot
Broken HomesIt seems obvious now that this order would have been rubbish
Here also are some mixothoughts:
Vapour Trial - I tried an edit on the second chorus to cut the third repeat, the 'hands' one. The idea seems good but might need some jiggering cos of the change in dynamic.
Last chorus, first bit, I don't like the low harmony on the 'oo-ee-oo yeah' bit. It was good on the demo without it.neither of these suggestions were taken up, though I'm glad they didn't do the edit. Still think the harmony is a bit much.
Glimmer
End of last chorus - 'can you see it can you see it there' - cut bvs/verb for 'there's a tiny glimmer' downbeat so it goes all small and dry.they'd already done this
Black Hole - look out for delay piano that sounds like 'quote unquote'the reason radio 4, the best radio station in the world, is the worst radio station in the world/cocktails at six, such as second chorus, just after 'this is not a test'.if you listen out you can still hear what sounds like tinkly jazz piano, although (because) it's just random notes.
Hope you're having a nice time
