As I open the door this morning, I hear a strange sound coming from upstairs, a wailing, buzzing tone. It sounds almost like... yes, I'm almost certain it's music!
I rush upstairs to find Matt recording a strange, lightly atonal feedback guitar track on Human Shield. It's a historic moment: we've started making the album! Hooray!
Dave is coming in tomorrow to record some drums for real, so we spend the day settling on the arrangement and tempo for Vapour Trail. Then I record my first thing, the acoustic guitar part on Vapour Trail, although it turns out to be two tracks because that sounds more like Abba. Matt has an idea for the ending which brings back the second half of the verse music and goes all pretty, so we do lots of interlinking tinkly acoustic parts for that. The song now runs to about five and a half minutes. It's going to be that kind of album - a lot of lengthy end bits.
Then I do a quick guide bass part, and that should be enough for Dave to play along with tomorrow.
